Nearby, the formidable cliffs of Mount Botev loom, home to Bulgaria’s tallest waterfall, cascading from a height of 130 meters. Surrounded by lush beech and pine forests, the area is dotted with picturesque villages and historic towns. Kalofer serves as a hub of cultural and artistic activities, boasting local arts, crafts, wineries, and remarkable temple tombs constructed by the Thracian kings.

Arrival and Exploration of Kalofer

  • Morning: Arrival in Sofia and a 2-hour drive to the picturesque Balkan Mountains, reaching Kalofer.
  • Afternoon: Discover Kalofer’s riverside houses, the historic Botev Museum and House, local monasteries and churches, and the lavender and rose fields.
  • Overnight: Stay in Kalofer.

DAY 2

Nature and Culture in the Balkan Mountains

  • Morning: Traverse the stunning River Trail in the Balkan Mountains Park, crossing bridges and waterfalls.
  • Afternoon: Visit a local distillery for Rakia tasting, experience traditional sheep farming and cheese production, and learn Bulgarian dance steps.
  • Overnight: Stay in Kalofer.

Waterfalls and Folklore

  • Morning: Hike to the highest waterfall in the Balkan Mountains, below Mount Botev.

DAY 4

Rose Valley and Thracian Sites

  • Morning: Tour the Damascena Rose Distillery, explore the rose garden, and learn about rose oil production.
  • Afternoon: Explore Kazanlak, visit the Rose Museum, and begin exploring the Thracian Valley of the Kings.

  • Morning: Travel to Karlovo for a cable car ride into the Balkan Mountains and visit local attractions including the Vasil Levski museum.

Koprivshtitsa and Sofia

  • Morning: Drive to Koprivshtitsa to explore the museum village and its Revival-era houses.
  • Afternoon: Continue to Sofia for a city tour, including sites, museums, and churches starting from the city center.
